Hair Experiments

Outside of some small mending jobs on a dress and bathrobe, I’ve done next to no crafty things this week. Most of my time has been dedicating to working on pieces for eventual submission to publishers, housework, or other projects.

This morning, I decided to take a short break from the online world. I indulged in breakfast and coffee while watching some Justice League Unlimited on Netflix. Of course, whenever I watch TV, I usually need something to do with my hands.

Since I didn’t feel like knitting, crocheting or working on jewelry, I decided to see if I could do a Russian braid in my short hair. Here’s what my first attempt yielded:

Eh, kind of pretty, but still too loose. I think the sections of hair were too thick to get the look I was going for. Not a horrible first try.

So, I undid it and tried again.

Better! Not exactly what I was looking for, but not bad. Once my hair grows out some more, it’ll be easier to braid, but I still need to practice if I want to get the right look.

Also, it’s very hard trying to get a decent picture of your own head. Also, also, human heads are kind of funny looking.

Anyway, I will say this is a lot easier than it looks, and it keeps my hair out of my face very well. I think I’ll keep this braid in while I get some weeding in.

  1. Yes! It actually held relatively well, too. By the end of the day, ends started coming unraveled, but the braid did a great job of keeping my hair out of my face.

If I ever do this for a formal event, I'll probably end up using hair spray or bobby pins to keep it in place for longer.
